During my time so far as a motorsport photographer, no lens has puzzled me more than the 50mm. The focal length is awkward to me, and I always feel like I’m too far from the subject or not quite far enough. Every time I slap it on, I feel lost. There has been exactly one time where I felt at home using, and it was the first time I found myself standing directly in front of Valentino Rossi during a post-qualifying media scrum. Just seconds after this photo was taken, the repeated bright flashes from a fellow photographer’s speedlight got the better of Valentino and he proceeded to put his sunglasses on.
