Due to a mix of circumstances, this was my first time back at Road America since the start of the MotoAmerica series. I had somewhat unintentionally shifted my focus to MotoGP for the last several years, and it was my involvement with Cycle Vision Network that helped bring me back to the pinnacle of American road racing. Going back to a racetrack after a long absence offered an interesting perspective that I had not experienced before: a mix of geographical familiarity with having a newer set of eyes. So it was only fitting that the resulting favorite on-track image from the weekend was also a combination of old and new. The old involved once again taking advantage of the track’s amply marked asphalt to add a bit of interest to the negative space in the frame, coupled with a slightly different composition thanks to a slight tilt of the lens at an otherwise familiar corner. The proximity and varying riding styles of Cameron Beaubier, Roger Hayden, Josh Herrin, and Toni Elias also helped add to the overall image, resulting in a snapshot that I feel summarizes what’s right about American road racing today.
