My name is Dan Lo and I am an aspiring motorsport photographer based in Chicago. I go to as many AMA Superbike, World Superbike, and MotoGP races as my credit limit allows, and maybe a couple more on top of that. Feel free to check out my many attempts at motorsport photography, read about my (mis)adventures on my blog, and/or contact me if you somehow feel inclined to drop me a message. Tommy Aquino - Mid-Ohio
A CornerSpeedPhoto column by Tommy Aquino
This year's race weekend at Mid-Ohio was exciting, and definately hot. Everyone was sweating out there own body weight on the track. Friday started well for me, getting in the groove of things, until I had a big highside coming out of turn 4 on the warm up lap of qualifying.
It was strange because I was going very slow, so I must have hit a slippery spot because a few other riders crashed there as well.My ankle and neck were very very sore, but we managed to get on the second row in 6th.Saturday was pretty rough for me. I woke up with my ankle swollen up and neck very stiff. I did some stretches and iced my ankle before the race and was as good as I could be, considering.
Saturday's race I got an average start and worked my way to 6th off the start. About half way through the race, I was at the back of the lead group when I hit a curb with my knee and knocked the knee puck off my leathers. So for the rest of the race, I had to use upper body strength to stay on the bike without my knee for support. I had a good battle with Steve Rapp who also had a minor problem with his speed shifter, and ended up 5th on that day. After the race, I put my ankle on ice until Sunday.

Sunday I felt a lot better and ready to race. I got a significantly better start and was in the lead group for the first half of the race. I stayed in 5th the rest of the race until Herrin made a big mistake and crashed on the last lap, so I picked up 4th. It was a good finish, but I really wanted a podium on Sunday. I tried my best, but couldn't make up the gap between myself and 3rd because everyone was doing such a similar time.
All in all, it was a fun weekend, and I'm really looking forward to next week's Laguna Seca round with MotoGP! Hope you can make it out ;)
